Prepare to be amazed! The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has redefined the limits of speed, achieving a blistering 0-60 mph time of just 1.68 seconds! This isn't just fast; it's a game-changer.
The unveiling of the 1064-hp ZR1 and the even more powerful 1250-hp ZR1X in 2025 has forever changed the landscape of Corvette performance. But, it's not just about raw horsepower. The ZR1X, as revealed by General Motors, has set a new benchmark for acceleration in an internal combustion-powered American production car.
Chevrolet initially teased its electrified Corvette ZR1X, hinting at a sub-two-second 0-60 mph sprint and a quarter-mile time under nine seconds. This naturally led to comparisons with speed demons like the Ferrari F80 and McLaren W1. However, the latest performance figures place the Corvette ZR1X in a league of its own.
The ZR1X clocked a mind-blowing 0-60 mph in 1.68 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds with a trap speed of 159.57 seconds. This puts it ahead of its Ferrari and McLaren rivals, placing it squarely against electric competitors like the Rimac Nevera R, which achieves 0-60 mph in 1.66 seconds – a mere two percent of a second difference!
But here's where it gets controversial... It's essential to note that these records were achieved at the US 131 Motorsports Park drag strip, meaning the surface was prepped. Despite this advantage, the performance was achieved with a stock ZR1X, powered by a twin-turbo, 5.5-liter LT7 V-8 running on pump gas and standard Michelin PS4S tires on optional carbon fiber wheels. GM confirmed these weren't one-off performances, as the ZR1X managed consecutive quarter-mile runs under 8.8 seconds.
“When we made the revolutionary shift to a mid-engine platform, this is the type of performance we knew was possible,” stated General Motors president Mark Reuss.
Other impressive figures include a 0-60 mph run distance of under 100 feet with a peak acceleration force of 1.75 g. The car's sleek rear-end design, even in its standard aero configuration, contributes to this achievement. The Corvette ZR1X, equipped with the ZTK Performance Package (which includes a carbon fiber wing and dive planes), still managed a 0-60 mph time of 1.89 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 8.99 seconds on an unprepared surface. These numbers confirm GM's promise of a sub-two-second 0-60 mph and sub-nine-second quarter-mile time, even with up to 1200 pounds of downforce.
Corvette development engineer and test driver Stefan Frick was behind the wheel during the record-setting run. He used Corvette’s standard Custom Launch Control feature, which manages wheel spin and transmission clutch application. This feature allows the driver to adjust launch rpm and target wheel slip, among other performance parameters.
“There are many different parts and subsystems on this car, with teams across the company responsible for them,” said Frick. “We were all motivated by the mission to break into the eights. This is a powerful example of the in-house skill at GM, and the level of performance we developed into this car.”
Chevrolet is now competing with the Rimac Nevera R, Pininfarina's Battista (1.79 seconds), the Bugatti Tourbillon (1.9 seconds), and Lucid's Air Sapphire (1.89 seconds) in terms of raw acceleration. Each model has its own advantages, like the Tourbillon's 1800-hp V-16 engine, and disadvantages, like the Lucid Air Sapphire's 5300-pound curb weight.
And this is the part most people miss... The domestic automaker stands out not just for its performance but also for its price. With a starting MSRP of $209,700, the Corvette ZR1X is the most affordable way to achieve a sub-two-second 0-60 mph run, beating bespoke hypercar manufacturers by millions and even the Lucid Air Sapphire by tens of thousands.
